The art of reflection

Sculptural concave and convex mirrors, designed and made in Mexico by ESPEJOL.

Two forms · Five finishes · Six sizes · And made to measure

( The house ) CONVETI by ESPEJOL

A mirror that doesn’t accompany a space: it defines it.

The whole collection starts from a single decision: to take away the flat.

CONVETI is the design house of ESPEJOL. A few highly recognizable forms, conceived to be the centerpiece of a space.

The collection starts from two geometries, concave and convex, and five finishes that change the way light and space are reflected. And because we make every piece ourselves, we can also take it to the form and size your project calls for.

( 01 / 04 )The origin of the curve

( 01 · The kiln )

Every curve begins here.

Four kilns like this one, in our workshop. Inside is the place where glass stops being flat.

( 02 · Inside )

A ring and the heat.

Below, a support ring that receives the piece. Above, in the lid, the heating elements that provide the heat.

( 03 · The curve )

It goes in flat. It comes out curved.

The glass goes in flat, with a polished edge, and rests on the ring. From that moment on, the heat of the elements and the progress of the curve are followed closely, never out of sight, until the piece reaches exactly the curve it was made for. A fine control that can’t be improvised.

( 04 · After )

Out of the kiln, it becomes a mirror.

Once cool, the glass leaves the kiln and goes to the silvering booth. There it receives the silvering that turns it into a mirror.

( The process )

How a CONVETI is born.

From raw glass to the piece in your space, there is a process that begins long before you ever see it, and hands that make it possible at every step.

( 01 · The glass )

It arrives flat, cold, with no history.

Every sheet is inspected by hand, millimeter by millimeter. A flaw invisible here would be impossible to hide later: nothing moves on to the kiln until a pair of hands approves it.

( 02 · The kiln )

This is where glass stops being flat.

Under the heat it yields slowly, in precise curves, until it takes the concave or convex form decided at the origin. The heat is managed with patience: a forced curve shows, cracks or warps.

( 03 · The silvering )

The instant it becomes a mirror.

A metallic layer applied to the back face turns transparency into reflection. It must settle evenly over the curve, with no bubbles and no blemishes.

( 04 · The hands )

A craft that can’t be fully automated.

Behind every CONVETI are people who have learned to read glass: when it is ready for the kiln, how much curve it can take, what a perfect silvering looks like. Every piece is curved, tempered and polished by hand in Mexico.

Form

The surface curves inward: the reflection gains depth and, at a distance, turns upside down.

( Your size )

No two walls are alike.

The diameter is defined by the height of the wall, the distance from which it will be viewed and what surrounds it. Pick a size and compare it with a 120 cm wide console.

Drawn to scale: mirror and console (120 × 80 cm) in their true proportion. Mirror center at 150 cm from the floor, or 25 cm above the console for large pieces. Price shown for the Natural piece.

Made in Mexico

ESPEJOL resolves the project. CONVETI creates the piece that defines it.

Every CONVETI piece is designed and made in Mexico by ESPEJOL, the house behind the collection. A short, deliberate collection —two forms, five finishes and six sizes— that, as makers, we also take to the measure of each project.
